Coldplay has released the Hong Kong dates for the Music of the Spheres World Tour. Before you buy the tickets, which go on sale on October 7, here are five reasons you simply must catch them live

Coldplay is coming to Hong Kong in 2025, and you don’t need to roll the dice to tell that it’ll be a good one. This is the British rock band’s first visit to the city since 2009, and they set to perform at the newly built Kai Tak Sports Park Main Stadium on April 9, 11 and 12. It’s part of the band’s Music of the Spheres World Tour, which will see them making stops at other Asian cities such as Mumbai and Seoul.

Coldplay will be one of the first major international acts at the city’s soon-to-be-opened Kai Tak Stadium. Hong Kong audiences can also expect a blend of never-heard-before new tracks like feelslikeimfallinginlove (2024) from Coldplay’s upcoming album, Moon Music (2024), and classics like Yellow (2000), The Scientist (2002), Fix You (2005), A Sky Full of Stars (2014) and many more. Here’s five reasons why you should not miss them.

1. Music veterans with critical acclaim

Coldplay has been the unofficial king of pop since the early 2000s. Their steady relevance in the shifting landscape of pop culture throughout the decades speaks volumes about their enduring influence on audiences everywhere ever since they kick-started the band in 1996.

Their maiden albums, Parachutes (2000) and A Rush of Blood to the Head (2002) brought us tunes that would go on to live in our heads rent-free for many years, with the former earning the group their first Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album at the 44th Grammy Awards in 2002. Over the years, the British rock band has delivered tunes that resonate with audiences worldwide. Be it the melancholy-tinged lyrics of Viva la Vida (2008) or the hopeful vibes of Higher Power (2021), it’s safe to say that Coldplay knows how to cast a spell on music lovers across the world with their tunes and lyrics.

2. Iconic collaborations

Coldplay has proved time and time again that music is all about bringing people together, the same goes for their musical collaborations. Their partnership with K-pop legends BTS on My Universe (2021) was a global sensation, while their collaborations with Beyoncé on Hymn for the Weekend (2015), Rihanna on Princess of China (2011) and Selena Gomez on Let Someone Go (2021) introduced fans to exciting new sounds and harmonies that kept us hitting the shuffle button and wanting more.

3. Promise and commitment to inclusivity

Coldplay is dedicated to making their concerts as accessible as possible for all fans. When we say all, we really mean all. They provide local sign language interpreters and SubPacs (tactile audio systems) for deaf and hard-of-hearing guests, delivering top-tier sonic experiences to everyone who shows up to any of their concerts.

Their partnership with KultureCity ensures that sensory bags and mobile sensory refuge stations are readily available for those with sensory sensitivities. Besides, touch tours are offered to guests who are visually impaired or have low vision, making every show inclusive and welcoming, while setting industry standards for other artists to follow suit.

4. Philanthropic efforts

Beyond making music that resonates and uplifts people across the world, Coldplay is also committed to making a positive impact in real time. They donate 10 per cent of their profits—from their tours, record sales, publishing and the like—to various charities, most notably ClientEarth, Global Citizen, The Ocean Cleanup and One Tree Planted, supporting causes ranging from environmental efforts to socially conscious initiatives.

As we speak, the band is now working in tandem with EarthPercent as a founding donor. Their unwavering commitment to philanthropy reflects their dedication to using their success as a platform to shed light on pressing issues that concern all of us.

5. Years-spanning and record-breaking world tour

The Music of the Spheres World Tour has become the most attended and the second-highest-grossing tour of all time, drawing fans from all around the world. Name any major city in the world—and Coldplay has probably performed there or is heading there to perform. At any given Coldplay concert, we have seen couples getting proposed to, fans dancing their hearts out to tunes they hold so very dear, local cultures being honoured and paid tribute to and innovative ways to incorporate sustainability; as evident in their promise to utilise 100 per cent of renewable energy sources whenever possible and the installation of kinetic floors and power bikes to convert fans’ energy into powering the shows.

Of course, the tour also features a career-spanning setlist, taking fans down memory lane. The upcoming tour legs of the Music of the Spheres World Tour announced earlier this week are also some of the last live performances before the band goes on an indefinite hiatus from putting out new music, as Martin made it clear back in 2021 that their next record would be Moon Music, slated to be released in 2024 with one more record coming out in 2025.

Ticket pre-sale starts on October 7 at 10am, followed by the Klook pre-sale on October 8 at 10am and the Live Nation pre-sale (for members) on October 9 at 11am. General sales will begin on October 10 at 10am. Be sure to catch a glimpse of the iconic band and lo and behold, find yourselves among the first people to catch a concert in the state-of-the-art stadium!
