Fisher opened up on stage about suffering from anorexia and alopecia, overcoming severe injuries and her journey—and her major successes at the Rugby Sevens and Fifteens.

These testimonies inspired the athletes in the room—many of whom received awards that night. These included “player of the year” gongs in a variety of sports, including tennis, hockey and football; to special honours, such as the Lifetime Achievement Award, which went to Heather Deayton.

The inaugural Sports Awards had culminated in a night of triumph, camaraderie and money raised for a good cause. The event not only recognised outstanding achievements within the city’s sporting community but also exemplified the power of unity.
