There’s no time to be bored in Singapore, especially when the island is peppered with a plethora of things to do—even with little ones. Whether they enjoy a day out in the sun or prefer making crafts indoors, the city is the playground for both kids and adults.

So instead of staying at home, why not have a family day out and see what the island has to offer? From walking among the dinosaurs to taking care of bees, here are some exciting activities to try out as a family.

1. Explore Singapore at night

There’s plenty to do in Singapore, even when the sun sets. For one, the Singapore Night Festival returns for its 15th edition on August 23. Walk through the streets of Singapore and keep your eye out for the festival’s art projections on heritage buildings. On top of art installations, anticipate family-friendly activities, local treats, shopping and more.

2. Visit Bubble Planet for a multisensory experience

Bubble Planet: An Immersive Experience is set to make its Asia Pacific debut in Singapore on August 31. The colourful interactive experience takes guests through 11 uniquely themed areas, each an immersive experience of vibrant lights, colours, bubbles and 360-degree projection technology. There’s plenty to look forward to, from a huge bubble bath ball pit to an undersea LED room.

3. Check out an exhibition

New exhibitions are constantly being introduced in Singapore, with the latest being the Art of the Brick exhibition. This exciting exhibition returns to Singapore after more than a decade and highlights Lego creations by artist Nathan Sawaya. Check out over 150 different sculptures including a six-metre-long Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton and a reimagination of Van Gogh’s Starry Night.

4. Watch a musical at Sands Theatre at Marina Bay Sands

With plenty of plays and musical performances happening this year, there’s never a dull moment when it comes to Singapore’s theatre scene. For one, the Royal Shakespeare Company is bringing Roald Dahl’s popular children’s classic Matilda to life. The highly anticipated musical is packed with catchy songs, dance numbers and more.

5. Bounce around at an indoor trampoline park

Spend the day bouncing around at Amped Trampoline Park. The space sees over 25 interconnected trampolines, allowing you to bounce off the floor and walls. On top of trampolining, a range of games and activities are also available, including dodgeball and an interactive wall. Be sure to sign up for some trampoline classes, where little ones can learn skills such as straight jumps, gymnastic stunts and flips.

6. Watch a concert

Singapore Symphony Orchestra’s concerts for children is the perfect way to introduce your little ones to classical music. The orchestra is constantly introducing new shows, with the latest being Pirates Ahoy. Featuring the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, the hour-long concert takes you aboard the Victoria where you’ll embark on musical adventures.

7. Discover marine life at the Sea Aquarium

Visit on of the largest aquariums in the world, home to over 100,000 marine creatures. The Discover Vibransea experience takes you on a journey through various aquatic ecosystems that have been recreated and reimagined through science, technology and art. Look out for unique species like the black sea cucumber, blacktop reef shark and moon sea jelly. While you’re here, don’t forget to go behind the scenes and check out its new Aquarist Lab. You’ll get to observe its nursery, visit its quarantine room and learn more about culturing plankton for food.

8. Spend a day at Superpark

This indoor activity centre offers a wide range of experiences and activities that are perfect for all ages. Visit its Adventure area and swing down on a flying fox or race at the pedal car track. Then move on to the Game Arena for virtual soccer, baseball and bowling. Do note that some activities have minimum height requirements of 100 cm.

9. Race along an electric go-cart circuit at The Palawan @ Sentosa

Bring the family down to The Palawan @ Sentosa as the highly anticipated HyperDrive has opened, offering Asia’s first indoor gamified electric go-kart circuit. The three-level indoor circuit stretches 308 metres long and is enhanced with sound and lighting effects for a fully immersive experience. Its eco-friendly electric go-karts also come in various kart configurations—including junior, senior and tandem—perfect for all ages.

10. Check out exhibitions at Science Centre Singapore

Who said learning about science had to be boring? At Science Centre Singapore, look forward to 14 galleries featuring various interactive exhibits. Learn about climate change through immersive gameplay before being mesmerised by a five-metre-tall globe installation. Don’t miss out on the Fire Tornado Show, a daily demonstration where trained professionals recreate a fire tornado in a specially built chamber.

11. Spend a day at Universal Studios Singapore

This Hollywood theme park boasts a range of exciting kid-friendly rides and interactive shows. Explore the various zones from New York to Sci-fi City. Get to meet your favourite characters from Transformers, Sesame Street and Madagascar too. Before you leave, remember to grab a souvenir at one of its various retail stores.

12. Look out for your favourite animals at Singapore Zoo

The world’s first ‘open concept’ zoo is home to over 4,000 animals such as white tigers, African penguins and electric blue geckos. Learn more about animals you see around the zoo and get to feed some of them yourself. Then, meet with domesticated and abandoned animals at the Animal Friends presentation at the Rainforest KidzWorld amphitheatre. Cool down from the heat at the Wet Play Area, complete with various climbers, slides and sprayers.

13. Fly a kite at Marina Barrage

Spend the evening at Marina Barrage’s Green Roof by having a picnic and flying kites while admiring the panoramic view of the bay area. Come early and save yourselves a spot, as the barrage can get crowded in the evening.

While you’re here, visit the Solar Park too, comprising over 400 solar panels that provide the electricity needed for lighting at the barrage in the day. One of the largest collections of solar panels around the island, the park is also a showcase for Singapore’s push for a greener country.

14. Explore the Future World exhibition at ArtScience Museum

ArtScience Museum’s permanent exhibition and digital playground, Future World, is sure to get your kids entertained for a few hours. Find a collection of digital interactive instalments, created in collaboration with renowned international art collective, TeamLab. Use your imagination to create unique sea creatures before walking through a digital flower field.

Check out its newest installation too, Aerial Climbing, an interactive artwork featuring horizontal bars of different colours, projection, light and sound. As the bars are linked together, different movements will create different effects—making everyone’s experience a unique one.

15. Beat the heat with a snow day

While we may not get snow in Singapore, a trip to Snow City is sure to make up for it. At this winter wonderland, find a range of activities from 60-metre-long snow slopes to bumper car arenas. Don’t forget to check out its latest addition too—the Winter Shooting Arena offers paintball sessions with a spin.

16. Learn about Singapore’s history at Fort Canning Park

Explore Fort Canning Park and its various colonial-era relics as you learn more about how the area helped defend the island over the years. While you’re here, look out for the Jubilee Park too. Located within Fort Canning Park, this play area is complete with slides, obstacle courses and climbing nets. 

17. Have a splashing good time at Singapore’s first floating obstacle course

Located in Palawan Beach, Sentosa, Hydrodash is an inflatable water park that offers multiple inflatable obstacle courses for both kids and adults. Here, get to balance on platforms, go down steep slides and cannon ball into the water.

18. Learn more about your favourite toys

The Mint Museum of Toys will take you back in time with its vast collection of vintage toys and memorabilia. Its four thematic levels are home to over 50,000 vintage toys, collected from over 40 countries. Keep your eye out for key collections too, like the only known complete Batman robot toy.

19. Get in touch with nature with a rooftop farm experience

Learn how everything in nature is connected at The Sundowner’s rooftop farm experience. During the two-hour session, get to know more about undergrown critters, fruiting plants and even bees. You will even get to put on a bee suit and observe them as they forage from flower to flower.

20. Walk among the dinosaurs

Ever wondered what it was like during the dinosaur era? Head down to Changi Airport Connector and find out. Here, you will find Changi Jurassic Mile, the island’s largest permanent outdoor display of over 20 different life-sized dinosaurs. From towering Tyrannosaurus Rex to hatching dinosaur eggs, these prehistoric creatures are sure to excite your kids, despite the one-kilometre walk.

21. Race to the finish line

Adrenaline-loving families can head to Skyline Luge Sentosa for a gravity-fuelled ride. Race down four courses while catching the scenic view of Sentosa island in its three-wheeled Luge carts. Visit during golden hour and catch the sunset, or visit after sundown and watch the circuit light up.

22. Create a masterpiece

From glass painting to crotchet, Sage Artelier offers an array of workshops for both kids and adults. Their Air Dry Clay workshop is a favourite among many. Recommended for ages five and above, this workshop will give you an insight into claywork. Get to create your own piece through various ceramic techniques, from coiling to glazing. You’ll even get to bring your pieces home at the end of the day.

23. Nerf your heart out

Bond with your family with a day at the Nerf Action Xperience. Choose from an array of indoor-themed activities from surviving a zombie apocalypse to scaling a summit—all while shooting and dodging flying pellets.

24. Learn about goats
