Award-winning Hong Kong actor Tony Leung contributed a painting by mainland Chinese artist Zao Wou-Ki and HK$3 million to the Hong Kong Paediatric Society’s HKPS Bright Future Scholarship
Talent meets kindness in film star Tony Leung’s latest charitable act. The Hong Kong actor, known for movies including Infernal Affairs (2002), In the Mood for Love (2000) and Marvel film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021), earlier this year donated HK$3 million and a Zao Wou-Ki painting from his private collection to the Hong Kong Paediatric Society’s HKPS Bright Future Scholarship. His contribution was announced at a ceremony on August 25 at the Renaissance Hong Kong Harbour View Hotel in Wan Chai.
The scholarship was set up in 2023 and is run by the Hong Kong Paediatric Society, educational development charity Bright Future Charitable Foundation, and The Boys and Girls Clubs Association of Hong Kong. This year, thanks to Leung’s donation, nearly 200 young people with chronic diseases or special educational needs, or from low-income families are benefiting. They received grants that range from HK$15,000 to HK$20,000.

During the ceremony, at which the recipients were recognised on stage, Leung said he was touched by how “resilient the young scholars were, and [their gratitude]. I hope that they will continue to work hard and live life with courage and determination. I hope that [my contribution] will support them.” He added that he hoped his role as the spokesperson for the scholarship ceremony would drive more awareness of these young people in need.
Zao’s painting will be auctioned off and the proceeds will go towards the scholarship fund for next year.
