Since joining her family business Dorsett Hospitality International as president and executive director in 2010, Winnie Chiu has grown the company’s portfolio from 11 hotels in seven cities to over 60 hotels in 30 cities.

This expansion includes new properties in Australia: the company opened Dorsett Gold Coast in 2021 and Dorsett Melbourne in 2023. The latter is a 316-room property designed by award-winning architects Cottee Parker that is part of Far East Consortium’s $2.4 billion West Side Place development.

In 2022 the group launched its brand-new ‘aparthotel’ concept, Dao by Dorsett, in Singapore and West London. With its focus on sustainability, community and flexibility, Dao by Dorsett was recognised as one of Asia's Leading New Serviced Apartments by the World Travel Awards in 2023.

The company is set to open its flagship hotel, the 373-room Dorsett Kai Tak, in 2024. The hotel will be adjacent to Hong Kong's new stadium, and is located in the area that was home to the city's first international airport. Also set to open in 2024 is Dorsett Alpha Square Canary Wharf in London, UK.

A firm supporter of the Hong Kong community, Chiu is invested in providing opportunities for the next generation. The company has continued to sponsor the Innovation Award and Seed Fund competition in partnership with the Vocational Training Council’s Innovation and Technology Co-Creation Centre powered by Dorsett Hospitality International which offers students a cash prize and seed funding for their real-life solutions in support of the HK community. Additionally, in 2023 the company unveiled D20 Roots (德根園), a Chinese medicine and culture research centre with the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong.

Chiu is also the chairman of Agora Hospitality Group and a Justice of the Peace appointed by the Hong Kong government. The hotelier often speaks of her passion for the arts and is the chairman of Hong Kong Art School and joint vice-president of the Society of the Academy for Performing Arts.

“As a mother of two, I am incredibly committed to creating a better and more sustainable world for our younger generations. If there is one thing I can pass on as part of my legacy is that every company and in fact, every person, can all contribute and make a real impact. It’s our collective efforts that will make a difference in building a better future.”
